Sensorimotor Psychotherapy® was developed by Pat Ogden in the 1980s. It is a type of somatic psychotherapy that is informed by neuroscience, attachment theory, and developed from other somatic therapies such as the Hakomi Method.

It has been useful in helping people reconnect with their bodies and help the body process traumas.  This form of therapy incorporates movement, action, mindfulness, and therapeutic relationship.  It is a powerful and empowering way to heal holistically. By understanding our body’s reactions to stress, our attachments, and environment, we can begin to use our resources to have more control, stay within our window of tolerance, and gain a sense of completion.

If we recognize our body’s somatic experience before it runs away with our emotions and thoughts, we can have more control over our reactions and break unhealthy habits by replacing them with new healthy ones.
